The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are some of the most anticipated models for OnePlus fandom — in the most part, because of the rumors and leaks surrounding the phone. However, with the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro having only been released this summer, there may be quite a wait before we hear any concrete news about the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. But anyway, let’s take a sneak peek at the leaks and rumors first.
OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro: release date
Ever since the original OnePlus One hit the market in 2014, the company has released a new phone every year. Thus, it would not be illogical to assume that we might see the upcoming OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro released sometime in 2020.
With that, there is no way of knowing (at least, for now) when exactly the new OnePlus 9 will hit the market. Unlike other big smartphone companies like Apple and Samsung, OnePlus doesn’t host regular events to announce its upcoming new models.
OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro: how much will it be?
Another thing everyone seems to want to know about the two upcoming phones is the price. While there is not much information regarding what the price of each model might be, we can expect it to be within the similar range to the latest OnePlus smartphones: like the OnePlus7 line.
When the OnePlus 7 was launched, the phone started off at about $600 for the basic model and went up to around $660 for the highest one. The OnePlus 7 Pro kicked off at about $780 with the most expensive version going for over $980. If the OnePlus 9 comes with the same model line-up, it might start at somewhere around $650 with the higher end versions of the smartphone going well over $980.
OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro: most anticipated features
So, why is everyone waiting so impatiently for the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro? There are several features that the new phones are rumored to come with that got people talking. These are:
Waterfall Screen
The OnePlus 8 may just be the phone to feature Oppo’s next generation of touchscreen technology. The company has recently unveiled the prototype of its groundbreaking waterfall screen— and it’s definitely something to see. The phone’s display “flows” over its edges producing the said “waterfall” effect. The new screen is surely a looker — but there are no leaks as of yet of whether that’s gonna carry any additional functionality.
Bigger battery
While the OnePlus 8 Pro packs in a pretty large battery and lasts for over 18 hours on a single charge, there are expectations that the OnePlus 9 will come with an even bigger battery. Given the expected size of the phone, most users are hoping for at least a 4,000mAh battery on the OnePlus 9 and maybe even a bigger capacity battery on the OnePlus 9 Pro.
Upgraded HDR
The OnePlus 7 Pro was HDR+10 certified but many users noted that the actual screen performance was not quite up to par. Thus, it is quite natural that the said users would expect significant improvement in screen performance. For a smartphone with a large screen like the OnePlus series, watching videos in high resolution is one of the major appeals — and, if the HDR component does not deliver what’s expected of it, this would make for a big disappointment for a lot of users.
Improved camera
The latest OnePlus model is capable of capturing 64 MP images, but the quality of the resulting pictures leaves a lot to be desired. This is something most users hope to be resolved on the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro.
And this is what we have for now. We know that the new OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro will come with some new exciting features and we know that there is quite a bit of a wait ahead. For now, all we can do is take a closer look at the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro and anticipate that the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will come with upgrades in all the right places.

OnePlus 9 release date: Will the OnePlus get a “waterfall screen”?
Could the OnePlus 9 use Oppo’s newly revealed display technology?
It could be a while until we hear anything concrete about the OnePlus 9; the OnePlus8 and 8pro were only released this summer, so the OnePlus 8 is likely to be a little way off yet.
OnePlus 9 release date: When will you be able to get your hands on one?
OnePlus Technology has released a new line of OnePlus phones every year since the original OnePlus One in 2014 – so it’s a good bet that the OnePlus 9 will be released sometime in 2020.
However, unlike other smartphone manufacturers (such as Apple and Samsung), OnePlus doesn’t have a regular annual event at which it announces new devices, which makes it hard to be more specific. What we can say is that once the OnePlus 9 is unveiled, it will almost certainly be released within a few weeks of the announcement, as has been the case for every OnePlus phone since the OnePlus 2.
“Waterfall screen”
Might we see Oppo’s next generation of touchscreen technology in the OnePlus 9? Oppo recently unveiled a prototype of its “waterfall screen” on Twitter, with trusty leaker ice Universe allowing us to see the new touchscreen in action.
The screen extends over the edges of the phone, giving the eponymous “waterfall” effect. It’s a swish-looking feature, and we’d welcome it on any upcoming OnePlus handsets.
